Gemotions

The band was playing a cover of his favorite song, and Emily found herself swaying gently, lost in the music. She'd already chatted with several friends, shared a couple of heartfelt hugs, and danced with abandon. She felt a profound sense of connection with the room and everyone in it.

The evening unfolded like a dream, the music a flowing river carrying her along. She was happy, the weight of the week lifted, her mind at ease.

And then she saw him. Across the room, leaning against the bar, was Ben. Her smile tightened, and a sudden chill ran down her spine. The music seemed to fade, the colors dull. She immediately looked down, busying herself with straightening the hem of her dress.
